Uncomplicated Cystitis Treatment - Training for Pharmacists Practising in New South Wales
General Information
From April 2023, appropriately trained pharmacists participating in the clinical trial in eligible community pharmacies in NSW will be able to provide treatment for uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women aged from 18 to 65 years (inclusive) as part of a clinical trial.
Participating pharmacies and pharmacists must be registered with the University of Newcastle (as eligibility conditions apply).

Please refer to relevant state based legislation and clinical trial onboarding information to determine if you have the authority to supply acute cystitis treatment and for any pharmacist, pharmacy, training and documentation requirements.
Course outline
This course provides training to support the supply of acute cystitis treatment in accordance with the Australasian College of Pharmacy (ACP) Pharmacist Treatment Guidance: Uncomplicated Cystitis.
Learning objectives
After completing this activity pharmacists should be able to:
- Describe the basis for the development of urinary tract infections including anatomy of the female urinary tract, pathogenesis, and microbiology
- Outline the key clinical features of urinary tract infections
- Describe the differential diagnosis of urinary tract infections
- Discuss antibiotic treatment of urinary tract infections
- Describe the role of over the counter products in the management of urinary tract infections
- Outline the pharmacist workflow in the management of uncomplicated cystitis.
The 2016 Competency Standards addressed by this activity include: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.5, 3.6

How to Access the UTI Training Course
College Members
College members can use their existing username and password for the College's learning management system to complete the UTI training course.
Guild Member Owners
Those Guild Member Proprietors who have activated their complimentary College membership will use their existing username and password to access the College's learning management system.
Those Guild Member Proprietors who have not activated their complimentary College membership can email the College team. Once your complimentary College membership has been activated, the College team will provide you with a the steps to access the College's learning management system.
Non-members
Those pharmacists that are not a member of the College or the Guild will need to become a College member via the link below. Once you join the College, the College team will provide you with the steps to access the College's learning management system.
As this is a complimentary training course, you can join as a non-member but we strongly encourage you to join as a Pharmacist Member to gain access to the College's extensive CPD Library for your ongoing professional development.
CPD Credits
This activity has been accredited for 1.5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 1.5 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan which can be converted to 1.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 3 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.
